YSL Mascara Vinyl Couture – Product Review & New Looks
Starting your morning getting pampered with your best friend is how every day should start right?
Both of us were invited by Yves St Laurent to try their new Mascara Vinyl Couture, available in a plethora of shades designed to lengthen, volumize and enrich your lashes with a deep, pigmented colour. Embodied in the signature YSL packaging, the high-sheen vinyl mascaras are designed to add a bold, impactful statement to your look.
Despite both of us getting ready early in the morning to arrive on time, as luck would have it we found ourselves stuck in traffic en route Downtown Toronto (ugh, the Gardener). Foregoing our morning coffee and half an hour late, we headed straight to the YSL booth and our jaws immediately dropped.
Touch Eclat! Eyeliners galore! The new Black Opium perfume! And of course, the Mascara Vinyl Couture … this is definitely what heaven looks like!
Once we settled in a bit and tested out some of the products, the amazing YSL reps pampered us by testing out the new mascaras on us. First things first, these mascaras smell AMAZING. Meira thinks it’s a bit reminiscent of mangoes, Shelley says it smells more like roses – either way, divine.
The mascaras come in an assortment of colours, all with different playful names.

Since these colours are so pigmented, I decided to keep my eyes very neutral in order to make the mascara pop. I also decided to skip my usual Gel Liner in 77 by Inglot and instead smoke out my top lash line using Black eyeshadow by Urban Decay.
I coated my natural lashes first then added Ardell Wispies, applying another coat for the fuschia to distribute evenly across all my lashes. I was quite happy with the results (and the smell!) – the mascara provided extra volume and created a fun, wearable look. I did notice the mascara flaking a bit, but it might be due to my using Wispies that had been worn about 8 times prior to my use for this look. Overall, I liked the outcome and definitely want to create more looks using the other mascaras YSL gifted us with! Perhaps in my brows next time?

For my look, I wanted something dramatic and colourful. I prepped my eyes with Mac soft ochre paint pot and set it with Anastasia Beverly Hills Nude eyeshadow. I added a bit of Nyx cosmetics glitter primer with H&M glitter dust in Catherine Wheel.
I created a really dramatic wing using Nyx costmetics Extreme Blue dramatic color payoff liner and the Blue YSL mascara itself. I lightly coated my top lashes with the Hazel mascara, I’m The Illusion. It has a gorgeous soft glittery sheen. Next, I applied Koko lashes in Queen B. On my bottom lashes, I applied heavy coats of the Blue mascara, I’m The Trouble. I definitely had to act fast, because as it dried, it became a bit clumpy if I attempted to add too many additional layers. But it’s nothing some fierce nails can’t handle! I just pinched the excess mascara away with the tips of my nails. This is especially important for long bottom lashes like mine, to prevent dots of the colour transferring down to the under-eye region.
My favourite part of these mascaras is definitely the smell. I’m obsessed with roses, I could smell this mascara all day and never get sick of it. I would definitely suggest everyone try at least one colour! So yummy.
