Top 5 Foundations For Oily Skin
From sheer to full coverage, I think I’ve tried it all. I started experimenting with foundations when I was a teenager (now that I look back at it, way too young) but nonetheless, I’ve tried my fair share.
Come to think of it, I actually think my first foundation was a Clinique Cream foundation that I would so meticulously glob all over my face using the sponge it came with. If only 27 year old Meira could go back in time and give my past self some beauty tips – I’d save myself from having to reminisce on my teenage years looking at over-threaded eyebrows, blue eyeshadow and foundation 2 shades lighter than my actual skintone.
Anyways, with all the experimenting on what works & what doesn’t, I’ve devised my current Top 5’s for my lovely oily complexion (yum!) I typically reach for something more medium to full coverage, using it minimally during my daily routine and a little, or a lot, heavier during my glam routine. I’ve also listed out the shades I use, but as with any foundation, I would recommend visiting the stores to either get colour matched or grab some samples to see how they work with your skin.
This list is in no particular order, mainly because I don’t want to offend the foundations that would have made it to number 1 if this list was in order (my gosh, my brain is weird)
Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation
My go to foundation, hands down. For reference, my shade is “Nude” and is the absolute perfect match for my skintone. The coverage is medium and buildable and doesn’t leave your skin looking cakey. In terms of oil control, it does a wonderful job of lasting all day (I’d say up to 12 hours) with very minimal need to blot.
Makeup Forever Mat Velvet+ Mattifying Foundation
I tried this one after using Makeup Forever HD for such a long period of time and it definitely provides me with a longer lasting coverage. Since controlling oil is a big concern for me, I typically reach for matte foundations and this achieves that goal. Typically I apply a dime-sized portion and that can generally cover my full face. Shade: No. 30 Porcelain.
Mac Pro Long Wear
Before buying this, I read many reviews about half the makeup population loving this foundation and the other half dealing with breakouts because of it. I was a little skeptical after reading the reviews and maybe curiosity got the best of me, so I bought it. Not too shabby, Mac. I actually like this one. I haven’t been reaching for it as much lately, but it actually gives me the coverage that I want and didn’t break me out like I expected. Shade: NC42
Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte
So this one’s interesting. I very, very, very rarely use drugstore foundations and only recently did I take a stab at it. I used to have this theory that only high-end foundations would work with my skin and everything sold in drugstores would break me out so I would always skip the foundation sections of the drugstore. Boy, was I wrong. I’ve been using this daily for the past 5 months and it not only has a great matte finish, but it controls my oil – go figure! Shade: 106
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk
One word: FABULOUS. Even though I have oily skin and this foundation provides such a nice dewy finish, I absolutely love how it works with my skin. I typically reach for this one for a night out or special occasion because my oiliness tends to magically overpower the coverage after about 6 hours and because it is on the pricier side. But wow. I recommend this to many people looking to try a new foundation with an amazing finish. Because of the dewiness, I stipple it on with a foundation brush then go in with a damp Beauty Blender so that it applies seamlessly. Shade: 6.
